She is taking pills — again — for something
She cannot bear to feel; that inward ache
For what moves deeper than thought: a meaning
To a causeless emotion, for who’s sake
Are these tears for? Worries stop not to think
And she, never outside her Self, will dream
Of the day when she will stand at the brink
And never have to feel the blinding gleam.
O! My girl, could I win the words for you
To silence Anxiety, and sponge the tears
That flow when old nightmares rise anew,
I would devote my few years to quell your fears.
Until then, mark this: I am at your side,
With a listening ear and eyes that have cried.
